If you’re dreaming of an elopement location with not just beautiful beaches, but also plenty of epic adventures, look no further than Tulum! A popular Riviera Maya beach town, this Mexican wedding destination has so much to offer — your adventure Tulum elopement can include tropical beaches, hidden cenotes, lush jungles, and (of course!) delicious cuisine.

However, to make the most of your destination wedding, it helps to do some research first to ensure your celebrations are unique and tailored to your interests.

Here are my top tips on how to plan an adventure elopement in Tulum!

1. Select a meaningful location that will resonate with you and your guests

Some of the best places for an adventure elopement in Tulum are immersed in the region’s natural beauty — think dense rainforest, stunning beaches, or more remote spots outside of town and away from tourists.

However, spend some time first thinking about what location would be best — whether you love the idea of a barefoot beach ceremony or are drawn to a jungle elopement, surrounded by vibrant greenery.

For a private beach villa, Airbnb is a great starting point, with gems available like Villa Moloch, a contemporary beachfront home that sleeps up to 14 and has its own private pool. Mahayana Tulum is also gorgeous, as each wedding is tailored to your exact requests and interests and you can say your vows right on the beach.

Or, for a forest venue, Kima Tulum is a private eco-retreat just outside of town but feels completely secluded. It’s perfect for romantic micro weddings in Tulum and the soft golden light shimmering through the jungle photographs just beautifully.

Just note that some Airbnb venues may require a full property buyout or require a minimum number of nights, sometimes up to four. It’s worth taking the time to research potential options before deciding, especially if you’re on a tight budget. Or, it can also be helpful to work with a local Tulum wedding planner, especially if you’re not that familiar with the area.

You can also incorporate sustainable elopement elements into your Tulum venue, ideal for couples who want to give back!

2. Work out the best time of year to elope in Tulum Mexico

Although the weather is warm year-round, late October through April is the best time of year in Tulum. It’s outside of hurricane season, and the region enjoys very little rain and humidity outside of the peak summer months.

In September and early October, it’s not uncommon for shops and businesses to shut down for a few weeks. And in the summer months of June, July, and August, Tulum generally has fewer crowds, but gets more rain and can be extremely hot and muggy.

Although rain showers are common throughout the year, they often only last a few minutes before the sun returns!

3. Pack (and prep) for your Tulum adventure!

With the right gear, you’ll be prepared to make the most of your adventure elopement! When it comes to rainforest elopement ideas in Tulum, Mexico, there’s so much you can do, like visiting cenotes, ziplining, and snorkelling, so be sure to pack what you’ll need based on your plans.

At minimum, you’ll definitely want swimsuits, sturdy shoes, bug spray, hats and sunscreen, and breathable, lightweight clothing.

And, if you’re planning on a legal ceremony, be sure you have what’s needed for the legal requirements to get married in Mexico. In addition to your passport, this will include your birth certificates and proof of annulment or divorce, if you’ve been married previously.

4. Always have a backup plan

There are so many gorgeous outdoor beach and jungle elopement locations in Tulum, but there’s always a (small) chance of rain or storms. To be extra cautious, it’s always best to have a backup plan in case of weather changes.

Your venue should have lots of experience with this though, so ask them for ideas. Or, if you’re having a private elopement, just have another plan in case your location, for some reason, becomes unavailable.

5. Partner with a Tulum elopement photographer who can capture your adventurous spirit

There are so many unique adventure elopement ideas in Tulum, so be sure to work with a photographer who specializes in adventure travel and weddings. Adventure elopements are a little bit different in that they often involve pre-sunrise starts, hikes, or challenging shooting environments, such as on boats or in remote mountain locations.

Adventure elopement photography is absolutely my passion and no wake-up call is too early! I’ll always have my hiking boots packed and am ready to capture your romantic elopement adventure, no matter where it takes you.

Please get in touch to start planning your Tulum elopement photography and I can’t wait to hear more about your upcoming celebrations!
