Your wedding photographer plays such a vital role in your celebrations! They’ll be by your side on one of the biggest days of your life, and their images are something you’ll treasure for years to come, so it pays to take your time and find someone you really click with. To help you get started, here are the top ten questions to ask your British Columbia wedding photographer, ensuring you absolutely love your gorgeous wedding day photography.
Weddings are a unique celebration of love and deserve to be documented in their own special way, reflecting your individuality.
Each couple, and their love story, is special to me for their own reason. One reason why I love wedding photography so much is that I get to connect with couples from so many different cultures and backgrounds and learn from them.
I value meaning and purpose in all of my relationships. Combined with artistic spontaneity, I capture each wedding in a unique and authentic way.
Scouting locations together with your photographer ensures you’re aligned and really helps bring your vision to life.
I love exploring venues with my couples! Being on the same page is key — it helps us envision everything better.
This is one of the best questions to ask a wedding photographer since proper planning and can really enhance your wedding photos.
I love to help with this! For your adventure elopement timeline, we’ll ensure we plan a day with enough time for everything you want to include, plus setting aside time for portraits when the light is perfect.
Within your venue, sometimes a few small changes to your ceremony or evening reception lighting can make a huge difference in your resulting images and I’m happy to advise on this.
It’s important to understand your wedding photographer’s style and approach to make sure your moments are captured authentically.
I like to blend in during your wedding with a candid, photojournalistic photography style — that way, your photos are organic and natural.
Of course, I’ll step up to organize family and couples photos and will assist with prompts, but your images will never feel unnatural or staged.
Some wedding photographers offer essential editing services to enhance your photos.
Colour corrections and editing are always included in my packages, but I don’t change a person’s appearance — unless it’s to remove a small bruise or pimple. I’ll also remove background distractions as needed.
Understanding your photographer’s contingency plan is important to ensure you’re covered in case of emergencies.
On the very rare occasion that an emergency arises and I can’t shoot your wedding, I’ll notify you right away and will do my best to find another photographer to step in that I know and trust. Our contract would then transfer to them.
If a replacement photographer isn’t an option, I’ll issue a refund or credit based on a percentage of the fee.
Most photographers bring backup equipment to make sure your wedding day is captured without any technical issues.
This is absolutely essential! I always travel with backup camera gear, which includes dual slots and multiple SD cards.
Photographers backup their photos differently, so it’s important to know how your photos will be safely stored.
I backup all my work in three different places: an SD card, an external SSD drive, and in a storage cloud. After I’ve delivered my final work to you, I still hold onto all your photos in an SSD drive for at least another two years, just in case!
Understanding how you can access your wedding photos — and how long they’ll be available online — helps you enjoy and share them at your own pace.
With me, your images will be secure in an online gallery for a year which you can use to share with friends and family or order online prints. It may be possible to extend past a year; please ask! However, I always recommend downloading all of your images as soon as you receive them.
I’ll also send out a USB containing all of your images, as an extra way to keep them safe.
Knowing your photographer’s rescheduling policy provides peace of mind and flexibility if your plans change.
I allow for rescheduling if it’s within two weeks of the original date or another date in the future that both parties agree on. There is no charge for this and your deposit would transfer to the new date.
